The Iraq Community Resilience Initiative – Ta’afi (ICRI-Ta’afi) is a United States Agency for International Development Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI) program implemented by Chemonics International in Iraq. ICRI-Ta’afi aims to increase stability in Iraq by supporting accelerated recovery in conflict-affected areas, improvement of the public’s perception of local leadership, and strengthened social fabric of Iraqi communities.
Reporting
The Translator position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party- Operations.
Work Location
The position is based in Erbil-Iraq
Responsibilities:

Provides written translations of any or all project documents, reports, and deliverables from English into Arabic, and vice versa

Writes executive summaries of documents in Arabic and English as requested

Briefs expatriate technical advisors verbally, and in writing when requested, on document content

Provides oral interpreting services as needed expatriate staff or other visitors during meetings, workshops, interviews, conferences, and field trips. Likewise, provides Arabic interpretation for non-English speaking staff during presentations and trainings conducted in English.

Reviews, edits, and coordinates any translations conducted by third-party providers in Arabic and/or English to confirm accuracy of translation and acceptance of their work/deliverables

Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:

BSc in translation, interpreting, or similar field.

Additional certification in linguistics is a plus
-
A minimum of three years’ experience performing similar duties (translation and interpretation) in the humanitarian or donor-funded development sectors

Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English and Arabic required

Experience with legal translating is strongly preferred

English and Arabic language typing skills required
