Background
The Iraq Community Resilience Initiative – Ta’afi (ICRI-Ta’afi) is a United States Agency for International Development Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI) program implemented by Chemonics International in Iraq. ICRI-Ta’afi aims to increase stability in Iraq by supporting accelerated recovery in conflict-affected areas, improvement of the public’s perception of local leadership, and strengthened social fabric of Iraqi communities.
Reporting
The Security Assistant (SA) reports to the Security Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the security officer to collect information about the security situation in geographic areas where the project operates
- Collects data to support facility (offices and residences) and operational threat and risk assessments for the project
- Distributes, maintains and checks security equipment and monitors security communications when staff are in the field
- Assists the operations staff with administrative tasks around the competition and award of task orders under the security IQS; coordinates evaluation committees and day to day coordination with selected vendor before and after a mission
- Participates in site security assessments and reconnaissance, taking limited individual responsibility for discrete elements
- Maintains and distributes the phone tree and emergency cascade plan
- With the guidance of the security team, maintains and updates the Emergency and Information Security plan (EISP) and corresponding business continuity documents, providing limited technical input to the security officer
- Provides logistic support to security team for trainings, meetings and conferences
- Performs coordination and communications roles during an incident, emergency or crisis, pulling together needed information, contacting stakeholders, or other logistic tasks as directed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- One to three years’ experience in a security function with experience with international organizations particularly well regarded
- Experience conducting site risk assessments and advising on security threats, especially to projects or assistance activities
- Demonstrated ability to build, generate and leverage network connections various areas around Iraq to promote an accurate understanding of risk, strengthen knowledge of country context, and to improve project support
- Existing connections with local law enforcement authorities, ability to build relationships and expand networks
- Attention to detail, sound administrative skills, and an ability to work effectively with others
- Experience providing security oversight to an international donor program desirable
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in written and oral Arabic, Kurdish and English is required
