FWE-Kurdistan Iraq, based in Dohuk, is a local branch office of Friends of Waldorf Education (FWE) Germany, an international humanitarian organization specialized in post crisis Pedagogy headquartered in Karlsruhe / Germany. Through Emergency Pedagogy, a holistic approach based on 100 years of Waldorf Education, contemporary science, 14 years of international Emergency Pedagogy experience, FWE supports survivors of man made and natural disasters world wide. Additionally FWE provides further education for pedagogues and social workers in order to strengthen their capacity to provide a safe learning and studying environment for pupils and students while strengthening their individual self-care abilities and peer support skills.

“QA in Teacher Education”, a project funded by GIZ is implemented in agreement with local authorities and partnership with teachers’ lecturers; it consists of the following components: (1) Context Analysis on Project stakeholders, training and organisational development needs and inter agency dynamics (2) Organisational development trough participation of interdisciplinary working groups (Communities of Practice) who integrate and process knowledge acquired in trainings on EFQM, ISO into develop quality standards, policies and procedures (3) participative definition of training needs, training and composition of training modules complementing existing teacher training curriculum tailored to challenges faced by teachers today.   

 

Requirements

Education & Experience

 

Requirements:

 

  • Postgraduate Academic Degree (Master) in relevant discipline i.e. Education, Sociology or Business Studies
  • 8+ years professional experience in at least 3 of the following relevant discipline/s: quality assurance in education, adult education, change management, research, development cooperation, and / or Corporate Social Responsibility (focus on social sustainability)
  • Professional experience as senior researcher / research consultant, with focus on empirical research (qualitative data evaluation) ideally in the development context (i.e. Baseline Study, Needs Assessment, Impact Assessment)
  • Demonstrated Project Managagement experience ideally in educational projects, including time management, stakeholder management, budgetary responsibility, quality assurance, communications, risk assessment, procurement and human resource considerations
  • Solid knowledge of education system of KRI, legal framework, relevant agencies and drivers of the basic and higher education context
  • In-depth understanding of the national quality assurance system, techniques and relevant standards (i.e. ISO 9001) and / or readiness to acquire further knowledge in trainings;
  • Ability to quickly get acquainted to and comprehend new concepts, approaches and systems
  • Professional experience as public speaker and workshop moderator: Ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts clearly, concisely and factually, both orally and in writing
  • Professional experience in organizational development and / or change management
  • Excellent academic English and native fluency in Arabic and Kurdish-Badini (speaking, reading, writing)
  • Professional work experience in NGO and/or private sector
  • Professional experience in relevant i.e. educational / private sector development projects funded by GIZ is a distinct advantage
  • Professional experience in composition of policies, standards, procedures (in English / Kurdish) would be an asset
  • Interest and experience in working in interdisciplinary teams

 

The position requires full time commitment; Please note that FWE may not employ public sector personell.

Technical Skills

 

  • Excellent IT Skills (MS Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Proficiency in using online communication (i.e. Skype, MS Teams, Zoom) and classroom software.  
  • Driving license and private car (desired but not obligatory)
Objective of position:  Ensure that project goals and plans are implemented on time, within budget and according to donor compliance requirements

Key responsibilities:

  • Acquire solid understanding of FWE, funding contract, project objectives, action plan, and key elements of project
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and respectful relations with internal and external stakeholders and institutions
  • Participate in strategic planning and translating plans into actions
  • Lead the project implementation according to contract, action plan and activities
  • Manage implementation of trainings provided by external consultants  
  • Present regular project progress reports to Project Steering Committee
  • Appreciate and report potential challenges and opportunities; support proactivity and creativity in resolving potential challenges
  • Supervision of Project Coordinator
  • Develop research concept and conduct context analysis (supported by coordinator) on relevant stakeholders, regulations and dynamics (qualitative data evaluation, literature, interviews and focus group discussions)
  • Develop research concept conduct Gap Analysis of Teacher Training curriculum (supported by coordinator)
  • Contribute to regular evaluation of project impact, development of lessons learned and best practices
  • Supervise the development of questionnaires and assessment sheets   
  • Lead / moderate regular knowledge sharing workshops and working groups (online and on site, depending on current conditions and possibilities)
  • Regular translations and interpretation between English / Kurdish / Arabic
  • Report writing; regular progress reports and final report
  • Support comparative bid analysis of external consultants (evaluating technical proposals) as member of jury
  • Monitor P&L activities related to project   
  • Provide administrative support when required

   And other job related duties as assigned by line manager
