Post OT (Operating Theatre) Nurse (Pool)

Main Purpose
Organize and carry-out all nursing activities related to the post-operative nursing care in the recovery room in the OT, according to MSF protocols and in coordination with the OT Nurse Supervisor, in order to ensure the effective functioning of the post-surgical activities offered to patients with proper care.

Other tasks as Nurse includes:
  • Accept and apply MSF principles, values and internal regulations. Apply MSF protocols and adhere to the rules implemented by MSF within Nablus hospital. 
  • Prepare the post-operative room to receive the patient from post-surgery ensuring hygiene and aseptic techniques according to MSF procedures and protocols.
  • Admit the patient from the surgery room ensuring correct nursing care in a way to avoid post-operative complications as per MSF guidelines.
  • Check vital signs parameters and record all the data in the patient file based on MSF protocols.
  • Follow the doctor prescription and give medication on time in a way to offer comfort and safeness to the patient.
  • Ensure aseptic techniques as a way to reduce the post-operative infection risk as per IPC MSF procedures.
  • Ensure IV lines and infusions are running in safety and report any complication identified to the medical responsible as soon as possible as a way to reduce suffering and give safeness to the patient.
  • Be able to identify any minor and major signs of complications and report it properly and immediately.
  • Fill the patient related documents and keep the entire patient file safe and available for any clinical consult.
  • Transport of the patient from the post operation room back to the ward ensuring proper handover. 
  • Assist the surgeon and anaesthetist during any intervention to the Patient in the post-operative room. 
  • Ensure a strict follow-up on hygiene, asepsis, disinfection and waste management in the post-operative room based on MSF protocols and procedures at all times.
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Follow user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device.
  • Participate in data collection and reporting. 
  • Intervene in support of other services whenever needed and requested.
  • Guarantee impartiality, confidentiality and ethical behaviour with patients and caretakers as per MSF principles.

Requirements    
  • Essential: Nursing diploma with specialisation as a Post theatre nurse. Desired Bachelor in science of Nursing. 
  • At least 1 year experience Mandatory as “internship“ with DoH
  • Desirable 2 years of previous experience with MSF or other International NGO’s in theatre
  • Desirable English; Fluency in Arabic 
  • For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
  • For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected
