Midwife (Pool)

MSF Switzerland is looking for skilled midwives for our pool to provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols. Nablus Maternity is a CEmONC (=Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care) able to provide family planning, miscarriage care, normal and complicated deliveries care, C-section and BTL after birth care. Apply MSF principles, values and internal regulations. Apply MSF protocols and adhere to the rules implemented by MSF within Nablus hospital.
Medical activities and patient care
Obstetrical and Gynecologic activities
  • Is responsible of for this obstetrical activities : triaging cases, labour and deliveries in autonomy, post-partum care, neonatal care,  including specific care: vacuum extraction, low birth weight newborns, newborn resuscitation,  vaccination, HIV pregnant women and women suffering from FGM (Female Genital Mutilation)
  • Referring patient to others facilities according to Triaging criteria, admitting for gynaecologic consultation or labor room.
  • Prevention of fistula, as well as early management are integrated into obstetrical activities
  • Miscarriage: refer to gynaecologic doctor and follow the prescription including performing MVA (Manual Vaccum Aspiration). 
  • Promoting and support patient in breastfeeding, dangers signs in post-partum time
  • Link with Mental Health Department for any patient in needs
 
Family Planning
  • Provide information of Family planning methods package, contra-indications, benefits, side-effects and uses of each methods, informing about BTL care and its indications.
  • Being able to provide each methods, including IUD.
 
Violence
  • Provide appropriate medical and psychological care to victims of sexual violence, according to MSF guidelines and protocols
 
Pharmacy and medical equipment management
  • Ensure efficient management of the ward pharmacy and medical equipment: drug and material orders, stock follow-up, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their return to the central pharmacy
  • Ensure the correct disinfection and sterilization of material, linen and premises according to MSF protocols
Organisation and team management
  • Participate in the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwives and the ward supervisor
  • Ensure all medical procedures are carried out correctly
  • Ensure hygiene standards are respected
  • Work in collaboration with other wards and departments (eg operating theatre, paediatric ward, laboratory)
  • Assist in the supervision, motivation and training of the maternity team
Monitoring, analysis and reporting
  • Participate actively in the recording, monitoring and reporting of medical activities (eg registers, partograms, patient files, reports and the compilation and analysis of statistics).
  • Ensure relevant transfer of information to the next duty team (especially the identification of at risk cases)
  • Report immediately to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.
Professional attitude
  • Following hygiene and safety protocols at all times, during delivery, consultations, etc., ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of all facilities, material, linen, equipment, and carrying out the sorting and waste disposal. 
  • Applying a professional  and respectful behaviour with patients, caretakers and colleagues including confidentiality and privacy
  • Informing patients and their relatives throughout their stay. 
  • Setting up health education sessions, according to needs, supporting health promoter. 
  • Ensuring comfort of bed-ridden patients: washing, installation for eating meals, changing position, etc. 
  • Referring to the doctor in case of any abnormal change in patient’s health status and other problems occurring. 
  • Ensuring good transfer and transport of patients and newborns between the different services and departments.
  • Transporting samples to the laboratory and collect the results.
Requirements
  • Essential recognized midwifery diploma
  • Essential midwifery qualification or specialization. 
  • Mandatory: At least 1 year experience as “internship“ with DoH
  • Essential working experience of at least 2 years in midwife activities related jobs.
  • Essential Arabic and Desirable English
  • Desirable previous 2 years experiences with MSF or other NGOs
  • For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
  • For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected
