Mental Health Gap Doctor

MSF Switzerland is looking for a Mental Health Doctor trained to collaborate with MSF medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services in order to ensure the treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders.

Main accountabilities:
  • Examine patients to determine general physical and mental condition, following MSF standard medical procedures.
  • When necessary, order laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluate data obtained depending on the case.
  • Determine nature and extent of mental disorder, formulate treatment program and keep patient record/file according to MSF protocol.
  • Referral or direct treatment of patient, utilizing variety of medication available in Project Medical Standard List as per MSF guidelines and only if indicated.
  • Prescription psychotropic drugs according to international gold standards and MSF guidelines.
  • Facilitate psycho education to patient/care-takers regarding side-effects and adherence.
  • Activate or refer to case-management team (counsellor, psychologist) if indicated.
  •  Discharge of patient according to MSF protocols considering safety and best interest of the patient and the caretakers.
  • Facilitate follow-ups with patients as much as recommended according MSF MH project strategy .
  • Provide liaison psychiatric services in other MSF departments if needed (ER, maternity, paediatrics ward)
  • Attend meetings with a multidisciplinary team or case management team as required for the position.
  • Reports directly to MSF Mental Health Activity Manager and Project Medical Referent
  • Coordinate directly with MSF Mental Health Activity Manager and Project Medical Referent for technical support and follow up.
  • Active participation on data analysis to complete the regular monthly, quarterly and annual report as required for the activity.
 
Requirements    
  • Essential training in WHO mhGAP Intervention Guidelines (WHO mhGAP-IG version 2.0) in the previous 6 month. Licenced and MoH registered with Psychiatry or Medical degree 
  • Essential proven experience on management of patients with Severe Mental Disorders. 
  • Essential English and Arabic.
  • Previous NGO experience is a plus. Personal interest in humanitarian work.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills. Flexibility to work in a multicultural team 
  • Willingness to work following MSF guidelines and to receive remote technical supervision
  • Desirable previous two years experiences with MSF or other NGOs
  • For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
  • For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected
