MSF Switzerland is looking for a Medical Doctor
Main tasks of the role:  
  • To provide medical care to Covid-19 patients. The work is to be performed according to MSF protocols, values, internal regulations, while respecting universal hygiene standards to improve the patient’s health conditions with Covid-19 and others co morbidities
  • Apply MSF principles, protocols, values and internal regulation and adhere to the rules implemented within MSF Covid-19 Centre
  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat severe medical conditions of Covid19 including co morbidities.
  • Providing good quality of care to the patient at the earliest stages of the patient journey - available and able to commence care directly prior to admission in MSF Covid-19 Centre. 
  • Working independently to provide medical assessment and MSF-compliant treatment of patients without supervision according to the MSF protocols and guidelines. 
  • Using a clear and structured approach to patients and staff. Practicing organised verbal and written communication as per the centre system based on MSF protocols.
  • Ensuring confidentiality is respected and a good attitude is shown to the patients and their families in all circumstances.
  • Keeping patients and their families informed of the illness, prognosis and the treatment to follow.
  • Practicing responsible use of drugs, safe medical prescribing including of IV drugs and infusions according to MSF guidelines.
  • Practicing good infection prevention control practices adhering fully to MSF IPC rules and principles in covid-19 context.
  • Collaborating with the different professionals in the centre to improve patient care, especially nursing staff as well as Health promotion and Mental Health staff. 
  • Following up the evolution of the hospitalised patients through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary investigations and treatments following MSF protocols.
  • Fill in patients charts according to MSF standards and requirements. Daily evolution of the patient is properly recorded and available to be read by the whole team. Medical orders are always recorded. All parts of the patient file are properly filled out. 
  • Constructive participation in learning and teaching to support professional development.
  • Involvement in service and quality improvement to maximise the quality of care for all patients and families. 
 
Requirements:
  • Essential experience as a Medical Doctor of minimum 2 years including at least 1 year Mandatory “internship“ with DoH 
  • Essential experience working in an ICU or ER of minimum 1 year
  • Desirable experience in COVID case management
  • Desirable experience MSF or other NGOs
  • Essential Doctor diploma recognized by the state
  • Essential Fluency in Arabic and English
  • For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
  • For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected.

MSFCH will manage COVID-19 Intensive Care Facility in the Al Salam Teaching Hospital, Mosul, in order to support DOHN’s response to COVID-19 pandemic by providing lifesaving intensive care for COVID-19 confirmed severe cases.
 
ADDITIONAL INFO
As a part of the MSFCH team, you will be directly exposed to potential contact with COVID-19 patients. Therefore, all interested candidates must ensure not to have any medical pre-existing condition that would make them more vulnerable in case of contamination of the virus.
COVID 19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth. People with the following pre-existing medical conditions are more vulnerable to develop complications from this disease:
  • Age > 60 years old
  • Obesity and Severe Obesity – BMI >30 and ≥ 40
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease, including hypertension, coronary disease, arrhythmia, heart failure
  • Chronic lung disease (including asthma, COPD, TB), heavy smokers
  • Chronic kidney or liver disease, including Hepatitis B/C
  • Pregnancy
  • Immunosuppression/immunocompromising conditions such as:
  • Cancer treatment 
  • Bone marrow or solid organ transplant
  • Immunodeficiencies
  • hIV/AIDS
  • Prolonged use of corticosteroids or other immunosuppressants
