Chemonics Iraq seeks applications from qualified candidates for the position of Logistics Assistant and Driver for a USAID sponsored project based in Erbil, Iraq. The Logistics Assistant and Driver will provide logistical support to the Operations Officer for the receipt and transport of goods.  The Logistics Assistant and Driver may also transport staff as well. The Logistics Assistant and Driver is a key member of the operations team and will work closely with all members of that team to ensure that the Erbil office runs smoothly. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Transports procured goods for the office
  • Prepares status reports on goods ordered for Procurement Officers and recipients of supplies
  • Receives goods as per the description on the purchase order or request
  • Inspects goods received and rejects items that do not meet the requirements of the order
  • Liaises with local transport companies in sending or receiving equipment, if needed
  • Drives assigned project vehicle as assigned and/or preapproved by supervisor to pick-up or drop-off items within post or in the field and other driving assignments as required
  • Ensures cleanliness of assigned vehicle
  • Checks assigned vehicle weekly to ensure that it is operational and safe to drive.  On a weekly basis, check the oil, radiator, fan belt, brake fluid, wipers, tires, lights, and signals. 
  • Initiates and supervises any repairs required on assigned vehicles with supervisor’s approval
  • Initiates and supervises routine periodic maintenance of assigned project vehicles, including oil and filter changes, tune-ups, and professional cleaning by high-pressure hose based on the manufacturer’s instructions on optimum maintenance requirements 
  • Fulfills project reporting requirements and maintain records; including vehicle logs, vehicle routing, and vehicle condition
  • Ensures passenger safety by obeying traffic laws, driving carefully, and ensuring each person in the vehicle wears a seatbelt
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience. 
  • One to two years of experience; Experience working for a U.S. company or NGO in Iraq highly preferred
  • Valid local driver’s license and good driving record is required
  • Understanding of auto mechanics required; Certification in mechanics or automobile maintenance beneficial
  • Availability for overtime work and field travel is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in written and oral Arabic and English is required; Written and oral fluency in Kurdish, and other local languages is a plus, but not required
