The internship is ideal for students or recent graduates as it gives the opportunity to get to know GIZ’s work in Iraq, thereby conducting capacity development through on the job training. Interns should generally work on a specific subject that gives them insight into the technical and development related issues addressed by the project or program or that helps them to understand the tasks performed and services provided by the GIZ Office. GIZ Iraq offers to all interns an appropriate expense allowance that is not a salary for services rendered but should cover expenses of the intern on a lump sum basis. The expense allowance provided by GIZ is 600 USD per month. The internship is a full time position of 40 working hours per week for 4 to 6 month. Public Holidays are respected as well as individual holidays are occurred according to GIZ rules. The internship does not constitute employment with GIZ.
A.Background
The intern would support the work of the GIZ project “Stabilization Support to Iraq (SSI)” which aims at stabilization of the IS-liberated areas in Iraq and the return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP). Thereby the project supports Iraqi partners in improving their capacity to act in the liberated areas. Amongst others this includes the procurement and delivery of machinery for the restoration of basic services (water, sanitation, electricity, road network) for the Governorate of Ninewah including Mosul City.
The internship will be based in the GIZ Office in Erbil.

B.Tasks for the intern
The intern supports the project implementation of Stabilization Support to Iraq in general. The specific tasks are outlined below.
1.Programmatic Tasks
  • Support to the Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting of the project including the preparation of maps, tables and graphs
  • Under guidance, is the task manager for keeping the monitoring system of equipment with an online application up to date
  • Support to fact finding and analysis on recent developments in the project areas
  • Support to Knowledge and Stakeholder Management of the project
  • Support to preparations and follow up of the necessary government paperwork for the project
     
2.Administrative Tasks
  • Support to translation of communication (phone, meetings, minutes, e-mails) in English, Arabic and Sorani
  • Undertakes administrative tasks such as preparation of paperwork for administrative processes, delivery of official letters and messages
  • Attending meetings and preparing meeting minutes
     
3.Other duties/additional tasks
The intern
  • Support to other project relevant tasks as arising
  • Assists other colleagues as needed in their projects
     
C.Required qualifications, competences and experience Qualifications
  • secondary school education
  • enrolled in university in the subjects of business administration, social science, urban management or similar
     
Professional experience
  • experience in office and project support are an asset
  • experience in data collection and analysis are an asset
  • understanding of Iraqi government structures and international agencies active in Iraq are an asset
  • experience in working with IDPs, refugees or similar are an asset
     
Other knowledge, additional competences
  • good knowledge of English, Sorani or Kurmanji and Arabic are necessary
  • reliable, committed, pro-active, can work independently
  • open to learn
  • interested in working in an intercultural environment
  • committed to the improvement of the living conditions of Iraqis
