Position Summary: 
Genel Energy is an independent E&P company listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange Headquartered in London with offices in Ankara, Erbil, Morocco & Somaliland. Genel is one of the largest London-listed independent oil producers and is the largest holder of reserves and resources in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. 
The HR Specialist Lead will report to the CHRO and will be based in our office in Erbil with weekly travel to our Sulaymaniyah office. The purpose of the role is to lead all HR Processes acting as the function responsible for KRI, accountable for all HR related processes and results.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Leads all HR processes and works in full collaboration to ensure the HR systems, processes, and activities are in place
  • Establish and maintain relationships with KRI Senior Management, London and Ankara HR teams and Line Managers globally for all hiring and staff matters
  • Ensure the Global HR team is updated with all relevant KRI employment law and local market developments
  • Collaborate with the Global HR team to develop effective recruitment strategies
  • Liaise with selected manpower companies for sourcing and outsourcing of hires as required 
 
Manage the end to the end recruitment process, including:   
  • Responsibility for job advertisements and application filtering
  • Scheduling and management of candidate interviews,  providing feedback, obtaining necessary internal approvals 
  • Conduct salary surveys and local labour market benchmarking
  • Liaise with the hiring managers to prepare interview forms and written exams 
  • Conduct pre-employment suitability checks for all staff including references, medical checks  and due diligence forms
  • Prepare offer letters and related employment forms for direct hires 
  • Preparation and management of the work permit and residency processes
  • Liaise with relevant departments to manage mobilization of out of country and local hires
  • Develop and maintain the KRI induction programme, and deliver the HR induction to all new joiners 
  • Provide support to all personnel in all aspects of onboarding 
  • Update personnel records and ensure the documentation is appropriate and up-to-date, using the HRIS (Cezanne)
  • Conduct exit interviews and recommend corrective action if necessary
  • Support cyclical HR activities such as performance reviews, pay cycles, talent management reviews, engagement surveys, etc
  • Supports the Performance Management Processes via Cezanne and by coaching managers and employees
  • Coordinates activities, information meetings, and various training programs as required
  • Act as first point of contact to provide advice and solutions to managers on employee relations matters including working arrangements, contractual matters, sickness, employee communications and consultation
  • Design and maintain current Profile Positions and Succession Plans for expatriate employees as required by KRI regulations
  • Liaise with the Global HR department to prepare the quarterly Stewardship Reports and Annual Workforce Development Reports 
  • Manage the MNR portal and ensure all the MNR guidelines are adhered to
  • Maintaining personnel files and administering payroll changes, i.e. new hires, transfers, promotions,
  • Processing accurate and timely payroll process, 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new policies, procedures and guidelines taking the lead on specific activity as directed, including providing feedback on concerns with policies and procedures to allow for amendments to be recorded and updated
  • Monitor employee morale and company culture
  • Work closely with the line managers and employees, to Identify training needs by evaluating strengths and development requirements 
  • Uphold and promote Genel company values  
  • Other duties as assigned by management
 
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or Business Administration
  • Minimum of seven (7) years in a similar HR role, preferably within oil and gas 
  • Fluent in spoken and written English 
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft applications
  • Experience in working in a customer oriented professional environment
  • Experience of working within a multi-location, international working environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments, work with little supervision and work well under pressure
  • Excellent knowledge of Iraqi Labour law and ministerial instruction for recruitment of personnel for by petroleum companies

  • Multiple stakeholders with the KRI offices, Ankara and London teams
  • Internally the candidate will be expected to work supportively and actively collaborate with all disciplines and functions whether in London, Ankara or at any Genel Energy location in the KRI. 
  • Externally the candidate shall interact with the manpower and training suppliers and candidates.
