PURPOSE OF POSITION:

WV KRI Goal: To address the immediate humanitarian needs of the Syrian refugees in KRI as part of the NES response plan, WV will be addressing the immediate requirements of Syrian refugees. This work is primarily focused on the Gavilan camp in Northern Iraq (KRI). Key sectors of the program include Health-raising awareness and public education. The project area covers the refugee camp.
Position Goal: To lead the team of health promoters in the camp and contribute to the program. This includes the provision of program input into assessments, support monitoring, and evaluation. The Health officer, as a team leader in the camp, will be responsible for the implementation of activities and providing a contribution to the development of the project in consultation with the Zonal manager Project coordinator and Health adviser. The officer will build and maintain links with other stakeholders including other NGOs in Health and related actors (e.g. child protection, Camp management, and health cluster) to identify gaps. Programmatically, the officer will plan, supervise and monitor the health promotion group sessions on weekly bases, also ensures proper submission of reports in time that summarizes details of work done, detailed assessment reports and recommendations for project implementation. In addition to responsibilities of daily verification of data collected by the Health promoters and use MEAL tools for assessment and reporting.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implementation of Activities:
  • Review and analysis of health gaps in the camp.
  • Continuous reporting to the zonal manager, project coordinator and the Health adviser.
  • Conduction of health promotion group sessions on a weekly bases in addition to daily awareness activities.
  • Provision of daily data, weekly reports and monthly analysis of progress.
  • Ensure proper submission of reports in time that summarizes details of work done, detailed assessment reports and recommendations for project implementation.

Coordination with camp management:
  • Needs assessment
  • Attending the camp meetings regularly to be updated about health situations.
  • Inform and advise line manager about new outbreaks among the camp population
  • Support plan of distribution of goods under the project.

Capacity building of the health promoters:
  • Orientation session about week plan.
  • Train on new messages addressing new outbreaks.
  • Advise on correct safety standards and create awareness amongst actors

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor's degree in Health or equivalent academic and professional background in humanitarian interventions.
  • 3-year Experience in assessing and implementation work for health or medical services.
  • Knowledge /past experience on work which specializes in the needs of the disabled persons is an added advantage.
  • Technical research skills, including qualitative and quantitative approaches to inclusion.
  • Understanding of Protection issues, especially among children response and community-based protection
  • Presentation and writing skills evident from the proposal
  • Experience in managing inter-agency consortiums is preferred.

Work Environment
Complete Travel and/or Work Environment statements if applicable.
  • The position requires daily travel to the camp, and spend some time in office for program reporting purposes.
