  • Job Title: Sport for Development Project Coordinator (SfD PC)
  • Minimum Educational Level: B.A. / BSc
  • Reports to: FWE-Program Manager
  • Salary / Month: 1200 USD
  • Location: Dohuk City (Office) with frequent travel to Zakho
  • Contract duration / Hours: 01.06.2019-31.12.2019 (Full Time/39 hrs, optional part-time (80%) with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

Friends of Waldorf Education (FWE) is a humanitarian non-governmental organization based in Germany with a country office in Dohuk City and three Child-Friendly spaces in Zakho, Kurdistan / North-Iraq. FWE supports child and youth survivors of man-made and natural disasters worldwide. In Dohuk region FWE provides short and medium term Emergency Pedagogy interventions to IDP and host community youth and children living in hardship situations. Emergency Pedagogy, being a holistic approach based on Waldorf Education, fosters children’s ability to recover from traumatic experiences and to develop their individual resilience, along with enhanced social and creative skills. Starting in June GIZ and FWE join efforts to synergize the positive impacts of Sport for Developmet and Trauma Pedagogy on child wellbeing and social development. We are currently looking for an SfD coordinator. Education & Experience

Must have:

  • Minimum B.A. in Sports/Physical Education with 3+ years of professional experience in relevant discipline
  • Postgraduate Degree in Sports/Physical Education with a strong interest in mental health and work experience in a relevant discipline (teaching, sports, coordination, coaching) desired
  • Experience in sport event management
  • Excellent English command and ideally fluency in both Arabic and Kurdish-Badini
  • Documented Sport for Development (GIZ) or Education experience


  • Experience or interest in sports marketing
  • Experience or interest in working with IDP and/or refugees
  • Creative problem solver

Technical Skills

  • Excellent IT Skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to work (Samsung) Tablet (photography, assessment checklists)
  • Driving license and private car (desired but not obligatory), ability to drive with manual transmission

The objective of position: Provision of impartial quality control and constructive mentoring of FWE-Coaches ensuring a continuous learning and successful project implementation

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in inductions on Trauma Pedagogy, Child Protection, Humanitarian Standards, FWE KRI
  • Participate in SfD GIZ Training (3 training)
  • Familiarize with up to date GIZ SfD Guidelines and Manual
  • Participate in strategic planning and translating these plans into actions
  • Establish and foster cooperative and respectful relations with internal and external stakeholders (i.e. Camp Management/BRHA, parents, GIZ)
  • Conduct weekly field visits to Zakho, mentoring of 9 pairs of coaches, each consisting of 1 Physical Education Student and 1 Trauma Pedagogy Practitioner
  • Coordination of Sport events in collaboration with SfD Coaches
  • Cooperation with Research-Trainee (Bsc Psych) in information gathering and assessments
  • Make use of SfD monitoring tools
  • Provision of weekly reports on SfD activities in all FWE Stations
  • Revise P&L recommendations related to Goalkeepers project
  • Provide administrative support when required
  • Other duties as assigned by the line manager
