Overall purpose of the job 
The GIS Officer shall ensure the continuous and correct functionality of the part of the global IMS relevant to Iraq  programme, and compliance of data within IMS with the MAG requirements and processes. Under guidance of PIM, the GIS Officer will develop IM solutions utilising ESRI software package, such as mobile  data collection forms, web-based maps, applications, dashboards and other.

Reports to the Programme Information Manager (PIM) 

Detailed Responsibilities 
  • Ensure continuous and correct functionality of the part of the global IMS relevant to Iraq programme, by  keeping up to date survey forms, feature layers and relations between them, setting up mobile data collection  and mapping application and devices, as well as reporting any occurring issues to the PIM or/and RISM. • Correct any data entry errors flagged by data validators.  
  • Perform quality checks on data uploaded to IMS on regular basis (daily, weekly or monthly depending on  type of data), and ensure that collected data is up-to-date, complete, accurate and correct. • Export data from global IMS on request; 
  • Develop new elements of the Iraq or/and global IMS utilising ESRI software package, such as mobile data  collection forms, web-based maps, applications, dashboards as requested by PIM and RISM; • Support the PIM in the creation of new solutions for the Iraq and global IM Systems as needed; • Perform spatial and statistical analysis of the collected data; 
  • Any other task required by the line manager.

  • Work in compliance with/uphold MAG's Safeguarding framework - Policy on Personal Conduct,  Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy, Dignity at Work Policy, Reporting Malpractice  (Whistleblowing) Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy and Policy on Modern Slavery 
  • Challenge any unacceptable behavior and report any safeguarding concerns that happen to them and  others during their work in MAG

  • Contribute to other fundraising initiatives where appropriate 
  • Participate in meetings where relevant. 
  • Understand and uphold the standards outlined in MAG’s Safeguarding Framework, acting with due  care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with MAG’s work  and reporting concerns if they do arise 
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required by the line manager. 
Person selection criteria  
The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following attributes: 
  • Excellent command of English and good command of Kurdish or Arabic with ability to read and write in  both 
  • Excellent understanding of GIS and concept of data management 
  • Excellent knowledge of ArcGIS desktop (preferably ArcGIS Pro) and ESRI platform ArcGIS Online • Excellent knowledge of Excel 
  • Experience with design and use of field data collection apps (ODK, Kobo, Survey123) • Knowledge of XLS form language 
  • Knowledge of coding languages (Python or R) is a plus 
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, precise, and polite manner in both oral and written way • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision, while maintaining necessary communication  with supervisor 
  • Solution orientated attitude; a record of proactively identifying and addressing the issue
