PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Faith and Development/Social Cohesion Technical Advisor leads the engagement with and mobilization of church and faith-based partners, and is responsible for:
  • Improving WV Iraq's conceptual understanding of, approach to, and collaboration with faith leaders.
  • Revamping WV Iraq’s programming in Faith and Development and Social Cohesion
  • Improving WV Iraq's understanding of social cohesion and peacebuilding and build staff on Do No Harm & social reconciliation awareness and capacity.
  • The position-holder will champion innovative approaches to dealing with interfaith engagement in the fragile context and social cohesion dialogue.
  • He/she will support the implementation and reporting of the Faith and Development projects. He/she will coordinate multiple stakeholders, assets and processes to support a vibrant devotional life for staff members.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy and Program Management for Faith and Development:
  • Lead WV Iraq’s engagement with church and other faith partners.
  • Lead the mapping and continuously update the various faith partners and organizations within WV Iraq.
  • Support the rollout of relevant programming approaches, which integrate faith and development.
  • Be lead technical advisor for the program design and planning process for all Faith and Development projects to ensure alignment with donor promise, context, new and emerging humanitarian needs and response strategy as well as technical quality.
  • Work closely with Operations to support quality implementation in all faith and development/Social Cohesion projects.
  • Form and establish linkages with other peacebuilding/interfaith networks to enhance WV’s understanding of best practices, and to share our learning.
  • Package and share lessons learned in sectors regarding Faith and Development/Social Cohesion, with the wider humanitarian community.
  • Contribute and support effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes and initiatives, and ensure effective data management frameworks are established as well as putting in place regular reporting mechanisms for all Faith and Development/Social Cohesion projects (monthly, quarterly, and annual, as required).
 
Equip WV Iraq leadership and relevant staff to live out World Vision’s Vision, Mission and Core Values in the most context sensitive manner:
  • Advise the FO leadership on World Vision International’s F&D policies and lead their context relevant implementation in partnership with other functions and units in the office.
  • Lead the efficient and context relevant realization of the Strategy Imperative 1 in World Vision Iraq including its integration in the Annual Strategy Review and Action Plan.
  • Act as a key point person to review and update a status of the progress of F&D indicator(s) in the strategy scorecard
 
Support WV Iraq understands of Staff Faith and Development
  • Commitments and integration of faith into the WV Iraq team culture.
  • Build WV Iraq staff capacity in having a clear understanding of Faith and Development programming.
  • Develop community church and other faith leader engagement competency and skills framework, outlining the competencies and skills that are needed for different positions in WV Iraq
  • Support the field Office teams in Faith Partnering relations.
  • Be the lead in facilitating the weekly WV Iraq staff reflections.
 
Develop guidelines and support project design to integrate peacebuilding and social cohesion
  • Contribute to the organization-wide thinking in WV Iraq on Social Cohesion and Partnering in line with current research and best practice
  • Work with WV Iraq’s technical expertise to identify proven peacebuilding and social cohesion technical approaches and curriculums which can be used with partners and with WV Iraq programming
  • Provide a landscape of social cohesion and civil society actors – including churches - in Iraq
  • Provide do no harm training to staff and partners
  • Review proposed projects for do no harm considerations
  • Develop guidelines to ensure that WV Iraq interventions are done with careful consideration of relieving social tensions
  • Work with other technical advisors to integrate peace and faith as a cross cutting theme into other programming approaches.
 
External engagement
  • Increase strategic pre-positioning, consultation with different faith and tribal leaders to build trust between communities through common agendas and plans to address vulnerability, injustice and poverty.
  • Build a network of collaborative Christian partners working towards assistance to vulnerable, conflicted persons and CWB objectives in alignment with WV Iraq’s strategy.
  • Liaise with WV Partnership related entities and lead National level engagement regarding CS partnering relations
  • Work closely with the WV Regional and National Faith & Development Teams to ensure the implementation of contextualized Faith & Development policies and strategies.
  • Work closely with WV Iraq’s Programmes and Operation Teams to develop the capacity of faith-based partners.
  • Share information (including analysis) with internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis to meet their information requirements.
 
Other tasks
  • Participate in local and international capacity building events and meetings.
  • Participate and attend spiritual nurture events as well as other organizational events
  • Work with the P&C team to analyze core P&C processes such as recruitment and performance management.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to conflict, peacebuilding, reconciliation or development, Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of post-conflict, peace and reconciliation concepts
  • Strong team player- must be able to form and lead a number of cross-functional working groups
  • Strong awareness of diversity in Christian denominations and willingness to learn about or engage with other faith groups, especially those present in Iraq.
  • Strong interpersonal skills- ability to draw commitment from other parts of the organization.
  • Good interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity, abilities to work as a team member
  • Diplomatic ability to influence high-level delegates respectfully and persuasively.
  • Experience in supporting Christian faith expression/trends in post-Christian, other faith predominant and majority secular contexts
  • Strong intercultural relations competency
  • A deep understanding of, appreciation for, and ability to articulate how World Vision’s Christian identity is reflected in its Mission, Vision and Core Values
  • Ability to communicate and demonstrate the value of WV’s interfaith work as well as interact effectively in culturally and religiously diverse environments.
  • Proven effectiveness working collaboratively with others and developing partnerships both internally and externally.
  • Effective in written and oral communication
  • Able to speak and write with a high standard of English.
  • Computer literacy; Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, · PowerPoint
  • MA in conflict, peacebuilding, reconciliation or development, theology, practical ministry, or faith-based intercultural studies
  • Good understanding of different approaches to partnering, and the requirements these involve.
  • Experience in peacebuilding and cross-sectarian or inter-religious reconciliation or conflict mitigation processes.
  • Experience in collaborating across various faith traditions
  • Knowledge of Arabic and/or Kurdish is an advantage
 
Work Environment
The position requires the ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 40% of the time.
  • Travel to regional & global meetings as required.
  • The position is unaccompanied
