Five One Labs is a start-up incubator that helps talented entrepreneurs in conflict-affected areas launch
and grow their businesses. We aim to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and livelihoods to contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
Five One Labs creates flexible programs for early-stage and aspiring entrepreneurs that are focused on
human-centered design, the core building blocks of business fundamentals, and leadership development. Our trainers are steeped in lean startup and design thinking methodology, and thus our trainings are hands-on, active, and highly practical for early-stage entrepreneurs.
We now operate a coworking space, The Lab:Suli, in Sulaimani, and are expanding our operations in Erbil in partnership with the German Development Agency (GIZ). This will be a new full-time office for
Five One Labs, which we hope will be a center for entrepreneurship, innovation and technology in Erbil
for all community members. In the coming year we will run our first, three-month Arabic-language incubator program and a second English-language incubator cohort in Erbil, in addition to running other
entrepreneurship programs, trainings and events.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Five One Labs team is looking for a confident, organized, self-motivated individual to join us as our Training and Community Associate in Erbil. The Associate will have an important role running entrepreneurship trainings and managing our growing innovation community in Erbil.
A successful candidate should have experience in the private sector and/or entrepreneurship, experience with community outreach and marketing, fluency in English and Kurdish (and preferably Arabic) languages, and the ability to deliver trainings on innovation, lean startup and business concepts. We are searching for someone that is interested in learning, growing, and potentially becoming a valued long-term contributor to the organization.
This will be a great opportunity to see the inner workings of one of Iraq’s first startup incubators!
The successful candidate will support Five One Labs to:
- Support the training team in running outreach and training sessions;
- Conduct innovative and interactive trainings on design thinking, business and entrepreneurship in both English and either Arabic or Kurdish;
- Support the development of new trainings, sessions and webinars;
- Develop and grow the entrepreneurship community in Erbil, which includes working professionals and entrepreneurs, program participants, and outside groups;
- Support the procurement of materials and development of vendor partnerships;
- Assist in the marketing outreach for Five One Labs training programs and events in Erbil;
- Develop relevant marketing content, including blogs, one pager, and email campaigns about Five One Labs programs in Erbil.
The Entrepreneurship Training and Community Associate will report directly to the Training and Business Development Manager in Erbil, and will liaise frequently with our training team in Sulamani. Five One Labs will ensure that the selected candidate has access to all relevant materials and support to succeed in his or her role.
The Five One Labs team is seeking candidates with the following profile:
Skills and Knowledge
- Undergraduate degree in a related field (Business, International Relations, Education, etc.);
- Fluency in English and either Arabic or Kurdish (highly developed written and oral communication skills);
- 2+ years’ work experience in private sector and/or NGO roles, emphasis placed on previous experience in training, customer service, and business advisory;
- Previous experience in business and/or entrepreneurship training;
- Familiarity with business fundamentals, innovation and design thinking;
- Solid computer skills: must be able to work effectively and accurately with Google products, Word, Excel, and email.
