MSF Switzerland is looking for a Doctor Anaesthetist
Main tasks of the role:
  
  • Organize and carry out anaesthetic/intensive medical activities, according to MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in close collaboration with the ICU team and other medical staff, and increase the knowledge and practical skills of the medical and paramedical staff through on job training and knowledge transfer in order to ensure the quality of care provided to patients. 
  • Specifically to be responsible for assessment and management of severe/critical COVID-19 positive patients including fluid management, oxygenation monitoring, airway care, chest physiotherapy, mobilization and specific therapies (thromboprophylaxis, corticotherapy and others COVID-19 related complications). Will be responsible of mechanical ventilation if implemented).
  • If indicated, ensure optimal care for critical patients in palliative care stage per MSF protocol in place.
  • Participate actively to the general work organisation (including patient management, equipment maintenance and safety, rational medical resource usage).
  • He/she is requested to pay particular attention to hygiene rules, adhering to MSF IPC guidelines in general and specifically for Covid-19.
  • Apply MSF principles, protocols, values and internal regulation and adhere to the rules implemented within MSF Covid-19 Centre
  • Minimum Twice Daily visit and  assessment of severe/critical cases of Covid 19  
  • Under the supervision of the line manager, implement,  MSF protocols and procedures on airway plan, fluid management, oxygenation monitoring chest physiotherapy and mobilization  
  • Maintain current knowledge around changing evidence in Covid 19 management. 
  • In accordance with the line manager, plan and organize the referral if needed.
  • Carry-out all intensive care related activities as required to ensure safe, adequate management of patients
  • Administering and maintaining treatment following the rules of hygiene and asepsis in force with particular adherence to Covid19 guidelines. Ensure good functioning and maintenance of ICU equipment.
  • Together with the line manager, ensure proper fulfilment of administrative procedures and documents (fill in of patients files, forms, statistics,  etc.), and elaborate regular reporting about results, proceedings and problematic situations and cases, in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity in the ICU

 
Requirements:
  • Essential Doctor Anaesthetist diploma recognized by the state 
  • Essential 2 year experience as an anaesthetist including at least 1 year Mandatory “internship“ with DoH 
  • Essential experience working in an ICU or ER of minimum 1 year
  • Desirable experience in COVID case management
  • Desirable experience MSF or other NGOs
  • Essential Fluency in Arabic and English
  • For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
  • For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected.

MSFCH will manage COVID-19 Intensive Care Facility in the Al Salam Teaching Hospital, Mosul, in order to support DOHN’s response to COVID-19 pandemic by providing lifesaving intensive care for COVID-19 confirmed severe cases.
ADDITIONAL INFO
As a part of the MSFCH team, you will be directly exposed to potential contact with COVID-19 patients. Therefore, all interested candidates must ensure not to have any medical pre-existing condition that would make them more vulnerable in case of contamination of the virus.
COVID 19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth. People with the following pre-existing medical conditions are more vulnerable to develop complications from this disease:
  • Age > 60 years old
  • Obesity and Severe Obesity – BMI >30 and ≥ 40
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease, including hypertension, coronary disease, arrhythmia, heart failure
  • chronic lung disease (including asthma, COPD, TB), heavy smokers
  • Chronic kidney or liver disease, including Hepatitis B/C
  • Pregnancy
  • Immunosuppression/immunocompromising conditions such as:
  • Cancer treatment 
  • Bone marrow or solid organ transplant
  • Immunodeficiencies
  • hIV/AIDS
  • Prolonged use of corticosteroids or other immunosuppressants
