Overall purpose of the job 
Planning, implementation, and reporting of community liaison initiatives in order to ensure community  liaison activities contribute to achieving MAG’s mission of saving lives and building futures of mine and  UXO affected people. 
 

Detailed Responsibilities: 
Project Planning 

• Assist in the development of all global project and sector community liaison work plans. 

• Assist in the development of operations work plans, as required (e.g. prioritization of clearing tasks).

• Actively participate in the Community Liaison Sector Meetings. 

• Coordinate planned sector community liaison activities with partner and stakeholder organizations,  government agencies/authority and communities to enable implementation of such activities as  surveys, risk education, and community liaison activities. 

Project Implementation 

• Liaise with affected communities, local authorities, government bodies, and UN/NGOs to facilitate  implementation of project activities. 

• Support Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams during clearance tasks by liaising with the community  to ensure that they remain secure and free from accident. 

Data Collection/Survey Implementation 

• Collect data on communities affected by Explosive Remnants of War (e.g. pre and post clearance  surveys, case studies, videos, photographs, and etc). 

• Complete IMSMA dangerous area reports, impact surveys, victim reports, and community  assessment surveys. 

• Collect data on Explosive Remnants of War accidents. 

• Collect data for Baseline and Knowledge, Attitude and Practice surveys. 

Training/Risk Education 

• Deliver Risk Education for Explosive Remnants of War and Small Arms/Light Weapons. 

• Train teachers and community leaders in the delivery of Risk Education for Explosive Remnants of  War and Small Arms/Light Weapons. 

• Conduct follow up visits to teachers and community leaders, trained by MAG, in the delivery of  Risk Education for Explosive Remnants of War and Small Arms/Light Weapons  

• Implement field tests for Community Liaison information, communication, and education tools. 

• Distribution of risk education/awareness materials. 

General Responsibilities 

• Work within the framework of MAG’s core values 

• He/ she is expected to maintain a professional conduct in line with MAG’s core values since his/  her actions represent MAG. 

• Contribute to other fundraising initiatives where appropriate. 

• Participate in meetings where relevant.  

• Understand and uphold the standards outlined in MAG’s Safeguarding Framework, acting with due  care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with MAG’s work  and reporting concerns if they do arise.  

• Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes. 

• Undertake any other duties as may be required by the line manager. 

Safeguarding 

• Work in compliance with/uphold MAG's Safeguarding framework - Policy on Personal Conduct,  Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy, Dignity at Work Policy, Reporting  Malpractice (Whistleblowing) Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy and Policy on Modern Slavery 

• Challenge any unacceptable behaviour and report any safeguarding concerns that happen to them  and others during their work in MAG 

Person selection criteria  

• An understanding of NGOs and a commitment to humanitarian work 

• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and very good English languages skills are mandatory, Kurdish language is considered as an asset. 

• Flexible and adaptable to local conditions of work 

• Strong communication skills  

• Ability to work under pressure  

• Good computers skills in the Windows, MS Office 

• Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment 

• Previous experience of working with communities is an asset
