World Vision - Iraq Office is looking for a highly qualified and motivated person for the position of Child Protection Officer – Nineveh/Telafer.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide support in the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of WVI projects in Iraq –Ninewa and to support Protection interventions that is focused on strengthening community based child protection mechanisms through the establishment of child protection committee (CPC) and supporting impactful campaigns to change the knowledge, attitude and practice of harmful cultural practices towards the development and survival of boys and girls.
To supervise and technical build the capacity of Community Mobilizers and community volunteers to promote the protection of children in the targeted locations. 
 
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Capacity Building of Staff / Community Volunteer 
  • In coordination with Children in Emergencies Technical Advisor and Zonal Manager recruit appropriate Community Mobilizers.
  • Provide training to all Community Mobilizers on required topics, including Child Protection, Community based child protection, community engagement approaches, behavior change analysis, positive discipline etc.
  • Follow up the roll out of the training by the Community Mobilizers to the CPCs.
  • Develop coaching plan and implementation for the Community Mobilizers to ensure quality implementation.
  • Closely observe performance of each staff and volunteer, provide timely advice and appreciation
 
Support awareness raising and campaign messaging and activities 
  • In Coordination with the Children in Emergencies Technical Advisor, guide Community Mobilizers to engage CPC on developing messages to prevent child protection issues and ensure effective response to at risk boys and girls in the targeted location. 
 
Strengthening the community engagement and networks 
  • Together with Community Mobilizers, , organize monthly CPC  meeting to receive child protection concerns and progress on the awareness raising activities;
  • Together with the Community Mobilizers create awareness raising materials for parents and other community members about child protection, child care, positive parenting and psychosocial support.
  • Document any feedback provided by CPC and other community members about the project activities, and take actions to improve the activities
 
Meet internal and external reporting requirements 
  • Submit weekly, monthly, annual activity report to Project Coordinator, Zonal Manager, CiE Technical Advisor and Program Officer.
  • Based on the donor requirement, coordinate with Program Officer to submit required donor report
  • Coordinate with MEAL Coordinator and CiE technical Advisor to submit information and report to Inter-agency WGs.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • At least Bachelor’s degree on social science (social work, education, psychology, sociology etc.)
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience with children and community engagement  (community mobilization, parenting training, teaching, social work, etc)
  • Native Arab, Fluent in both English and Arabic (speaking and writing).
  • Computer literate mainly in Microsoft Office package.
  • Good interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work in difficult and high risk situations.
  • Ability to cope and work under pressure.
  • Ability to mobilize and engage in community dialogue and discussion.
  • Ability to negotiate and mediate sensitive matters at community level.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated and ability to work in a team.
  • Familiar with Humanitarian Principles and standards.
  • Familiar with sector minimum standards and guidelines such as Minimum Standards for CP in Humanitarian Actions, Inter-Agency guideline on MHPSS in humanitarian settings).
  • Full adherence to World Vision Child Protection, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
  • Work experience with humanitarian agencies.
  • Management experience (especially managing the diverse team of staff/ volunteers).
 
 
Work Environment
Complete Travel and/or Work Environment statements if applicable.
  • 90% travel required.
