The Child Protection Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of all child protection programmes in Mosul, providing assistance to CFS Facilitators in the functioning of their programmes. S/he will ensure a timely delivery of the Child Protection programming in tandem with HA Protection Guidelines and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) in pursuit of quality and excellence.


  • Ensure timely and technically sound implementation of all Child Protection Activities.
  • In conjunction with the Child Protection Team Leader, develop child protection activities appropriate for the beneficiaries at the center.
  • Provide case management services for all child protection activities; ensure all tracking forms, case files, and databases adhere to confidentiality and protection standards.
  • Provide age-appropriate activities, including PSS and educational activities.
  • Provide case management for particularly vulnerable children, ensuring they are referred to necessary services both in and outside of the center.
  • Follow proper case management, tracking, and filing systems.
  • Assist Child Protection Assistants in developing and implementing recreational activities for children and youth.
  • Assist in developing educational programming for children and youths. Assist Child Protection Assistants in managing and implementing educational activities.
  • Ensure that project activities develop and are implemented in line with HAs mandate, policies, procedures and country strategy, including donors’ requirements, national and international rules and guidelines.
  • Accountability: Ensure members of the Child Protection Teams abide by the Code of Conduct, confidentiality, humanitarian principles, and international/organizational codes of practice.
  • Prepare regular and timely updates and reports as requested.
  • Any other reasonable duties, as assigned by the Child Protection Team Leader.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant University degree or a higher qualification in Women’s Studies, Humanitarian Assistance, Development, International Human Rights, Law, Social Work or Political Science.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ successful project management experience in the humanitarian field, with a minimum 2 years in a specific Child Protection role.
  • Strong understanding of Protection Standards, SGBV, Key sectorial issues and processes including advocacy for protection.
  • Strong conceptual and practical understanding of Child Protection issues and approaches in humanitarian contexts, including the constraints/risks and cultural sensitivities of work in Iraq.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure, manage time and prioritize work to deadlines.
  • A thorough understanding of the gender specific dynamics and protection issues of the Iraq conflict and IDP displacements.
  • Well-developed organizational skills.
  • Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures.
  • Strong (but accommodating) leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision and under pressure.
  • Fluency in Arabic.
