Human Appeal currently has almost 400 staff across numerous locations in Iraq, including Erbil, Dohuk, Ninewa, Salah al Din, Kirkuk and Baghdad. Human Appeal Iraq’s country office is in Erbil with sub-offices in Mosul, Tikrit, Baghdad and Aana. Human Appeal has and is delivering over $50 million in humanitarian and early-recovery assistance in 2017-18. Human Appeal is working in a number of thematic sectors: primarily in protection; shelter and non-food items; food security and livelihoods; WASH; and education. Human Appeal’s main donors include UNHCR, UNOCHA, WFP and numerous other international institutional partners.

JOB PURPOSE :

The Case worker will be responsible for providing survivors with case management and psychosocial support services, as well as livelihoods trainings. The Case worker will be responsible for providing PSS and case management services, and managing the community outreach mobilizers in their work. S/he will ensure a timely delivery of the Women’s Protection programming in tandem with HA Protection Guidelines and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) in pursuit of quality and excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure timely implementation of all PSS, livelihoods, and case management in HA’s Women’s Community Centre in Mosul.
  • Provide support to Community Outreach Mobilizers in identifying outreach needs, especially with men and boys in the community.
  • Conduct intake interviews and refer the survivor to necessary services provided both within the center and service providers out of the center, including livelihoods programming, cash for protection, and child protection related programming.
  • Ensure a survivor-centered approach is utilized during case management; act as the lead caseworker for all PSS and Case Management in the Women’s Community Centre.
  • Follow all established case management, tracking, and filing systems.
  • Complete referrals to outside services for beneficiaries in need of specialized services unavailable at the center.
  • Provide age-appropriate Psychosocial Services for survivors in group and one-on-one settings; refer cases in need of specialized PSS to Women’s Protection Officers.
  • Develop livelihoods trainings in conjunction with the needs and wants of the beneficiaries. Conduct livelihoods trainings or oversee hired trainer during training sessions.
  • Go on home-visits and field visits as required.
  • Provide case management services to survivors and beneficiaries accessing services at the Centre.
  • Ensure that project activities develop and are implemented in line with HAs mandate, policies, procedures and country strategy, including donors’ requirements, national and international rules and guidelines.
  • Accountability: Ensure members of the Women’s Community Centre teams abide by the Code of Conduct, confidentiality, humanitarian principles, and international/organizational codes of practice.
  • Prepare regular and timely updates and reports.
  • Any other reasonable duties, as assigned by the Women’s Protection Team Officer.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant University degree or a higher qualification in Women’s Studies, Humanitarian Assistance, Development, International Human Rights, Law, Social Work or Political Science.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ successful project management experience in the humanitarian field, with a minimum 1 years in a specific Women’s Protection role.
  • Strong understanding of Protection Standards, SGBV, Key sectorial issues and processes including advocacy for protection.
  • Strong conceptual and practical understanding of Women’s Protection issues and approaches in humanitarian contexts, including the constraints/risks and cultural sensitivities of work in Iraq.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure, manage time and prioritize work to deadlines.
  • A thorough understanding of the gender specific dynamics and protection issues of the Iraq conflict and IDP displacements.
  • Well-developed organizational skills.
  • Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures.
  • Strong (but accommodating) leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision and under pressure.
  • Fluency in Arabic.
