WV Iraq’s proposed intervention aims to building resilience of individuals and communities through livelihood interventions to enable them recover from humanitarian crises, and prepare them to resist and overcome shocks by their own means in Nineveh and Kirkuk Governorate. The project targets to help conflict-affected people in the target locations (women, men and youth, either IDPs, host community, returnees, or non-displaced) with the skills and knowledge for employment or business creation through support to start-up, and/or develop their own small and micro businesses, to re-establish a livelihood, and to recover economically.
One of the key sectors WV aims to use as a pathway to building resilience for improving the well-being of target beneficiaries is livelihoods and economic development. Within this project, WV aims to support through micro-grants, together with relevant entrepreneurship and business development training and coaching for small and micro businesses to ensure robust start-ups and business development arrangements in place.
The project takes cognizant of the need to embed social cohesion as part of livelihood stabilization, therefore, it will be working alongside faith and community leaders in implementing the project and transferring skills to them as well. In addition, the project is also anchored on inclusive and gender sensitive approach for livelihoods and economic recovery programming in post-crisis/conflict situation. There needs, concerns, and voices may not be taken into account properly unless a gender-responsive approach is applied to programme design, implementation, and monitoring.
